Our story

Grasshopper Ant’s unusual name is a nod to the globally recognised Aesop fable about the Ant and Grasshopper. The Ant worked hard in prosperity to prepare a war chest of supplies in hard times.   The Grasshopper celebrated and languished in prosperity and notoriety – meeting an untimely end after failing to plan ahead.  

Aesop’s ‘Grasshopper Ant’ fable reminds us to put work before play because it’s more important to things you need to do, before doing the things you want to do. 

Our colony

Established in 2019 by business leader Annie Spilsbury, an experienced innovator in supply chain management, Grasshopper Ant has introduced a unique approach that blends finance data and market insights with best in class supply chain expertise. Delivering a unique advisory service that rapidly translates budget and spend data into cost out opportunities. 
 
Grasshopper Ant works alongside finance and department heads to pinpoint areas of operational expenditure and indirect spending that can be re-negotiated, right sized or updated, with minimal impact to the organisation’s day-to-day operations.  

With a proven track record of engaging and mobilising teams to achieve outstanding supply chain results, Grasshopper Ant takes a heuristic approach to supply chain transformation and value realisation.

Grasshopper Ant works with organisations with revenues ranging from £0.040 billion to £4 billion. Our niche is in the Private Equity sector where there is the strongest appetite and focus for achieving rapid cost reduction and synergy realisation. 

Grasshopper Ant’s first wedge is the ability to leverage basic spend or budget data, employing  virtual data analysis to identify spending patterns and insights in Supply Chain Exception Management (SCEM).  Our SCEM advisory works effectively in carve outs, acquisitions and integrations. These services prove highly valuable when deployed in the clean room during the due diligence phase, where insights are triangulated with external market and supplier data, informing  the initial cost reduction and value synergies.   

Grasshopper Ant can apply their data expertise to offer clients a clear view of opportunities by supplier, region, entity, manufacturing site, or business unit, accurately pinpointing areas where supply chain exceptions exist and within which spend phasing.

Grasshopper Ant supports workstream delivery by deploying commercial, market, and supply chain experts to assess, negotiate, and mediate supply chain results. Our resources can be delivered through either on-site support (bums on seats!) or light-touch support to keep internal teams on track with deliverables.  

Our collaborative approach includes coaching and upskilling client teams to independently manage workstream outcomes. Establishing clear success metrics and workstream goals empowers in-house client teams to self-serve. 

 

Our private equity work

Grasshopper Ant provide forensic level visibility and insights on provision of very basic ‘bad data’.  We start work in the clean room phase, analysing data and supply chain synergies, developing robust Day 1 strategies to deploy.

We develop a war chest of opportunities to enable client’s to meet their EBITDA objectives – sensitively blended with an understanding of the challenges within the organisational environment.
